MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan who is at odds with her family, for Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend. Despite the persistence of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the love of her strict mother (Gloria Reuben), and an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy and dysfunctional friendship with Zoe protects the duo from the world. . That is, until Merit’s grandfather (Ed Harris), who lived in the family’s lake house, goes awry and needs the one thing he refuses to give up… help. It’s essentially a buddy movie about complicated friendships, a broken family, and the complex ways we deal with grief.
